2017/18 Pleinair Landscape Paintings
I set myself a challenge. From as early as I can remember I’ve drawn the landscape, carrying around a sketchbook, making sketches of places I’ve lived and visited, but I’d never translated that into full-blown paintings. I gravitate to abstract painting ideas but from 2014-18 I was living in rural Shropshire in England (back where I grew up) and it seemed remiss of me to not take advantage of a pleinair painting opportunity when it was staring me in the face. I wanted to hone my observational skills and use of colour, and tackle the rendering of scale and distance. So for just over a year, from Easter 2017 to when I left England in July 2018, I dedicated myself to making paintings of the landscape, pleinair style. And I loved it.
